The Legacy Lives On…
We like to say that Canadian Whisky is the greatest story that never gets told. A story of how a family turned a small windmill in the wilderness into the largest distillery in the British Empire, and for a time, the world. Founded in 1832 by William Gooderham, by 1877 the Gooderham & Worts Distillery was the largest in the world, producing over 2.5 million gallons of whisky every single year. Leading to the confederation of Canada, this family-operated distillery provided more federal tax revenue than any other enterprise in the Nation. Canada was truly built on a foundation of whisky.
The distillery was operated by the Gooderham family until 1923, when it was sold during prohibition. While there is no longer whisky running off the stills, the passion and legacy now runs in our blood. Through stories and history, Spencer Gooderham has dedicated his life to bringing people together over whisky, just as his Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather, William Gooderham once did.
